Yes/No questions with tarot
In a world full of complexity, sometimes all we crave is a simple answer: yes or no. Tarot, often seen as mysterious and symbolic, can actually provide straightforward guidance—if you know how to ask the right questions and look at the answer.
But remember: tarot isn’t inherently binary. Cards carry nuance. Tarot isn’t a coin flip, it is a tapestry of meanings evolved over centuries. It always wants you to understand the whole picture. We could pull out two cards and label them yes and no and direct the tarot to answer us that way. But, even when we think as answer is yes or no, there’s usually more tounderstand.
For instance, if we asked, ‘will the door open today?” We could get a yes.
We think, great, my boyfriend will drop by. The tarot will always tell us more, though. The tarot could be trying to tell us that a tornado will blow the door off, or a package with bad news will arrive. The tarot speaks in full sentences.
Here’s how to perform a yes/no reading for yourself.
Clear Your Mind: Take a deep breath and center yourself.
Ask a Clear Question: Phrase it so it can be answered with yes or no. Example: “Is this job opportunity aligned with my highest good?” Avoid Vague Questions: “Will I be happy?” is too broad. Be specific.
Draw One Card: Trust your intuition.
Interpret the Card: Look at the picture. What would it feel like to be in that scene? If it would feel good, it’s a yes; if it would feel bad, it’s a no. You can get mor information by looking at the details of the card.
Let’s say it’s the tower. Would it feel bad to be falling from the tower? Perhaps you’ve applied for a position too high up for you. Would it feel good to be falling from the tower? Perhaps you’ll fall smack dab into a lot of fun far away from home.
If you are very emotionally invested in the outcome, meaning you REALLY desire a specific answer, it will be more difficult to feel certain of the answer you see. In this case, some preparation is required to detach yourself emotionally from the outcome. This usually takes the form of some thought work and some meditation,
As you build a relationship with your tarot deck, you’ll see patterns emerge and yes/no questions will get easier and easier. Eventually, even when you are emotionally invested, the answer will be obvious.
